Round two of the Real Insurance Gravity Cup (GC) and All Mountain Cup (AMC) will see a welcome return to the slopes of Mt Buller on January 20-22, 2012.
The event will offer an extravaganza of mountain bike riding through the entire Mt Buller trail network, a destination that is fast cementing itself as one of Australia's best.
The AMC begins with a brake burning nine kilometer Super D descent down the iconic Delatite River Trail, finishing at the base of Mt Buller. The Delatite Trail is a scenic journey along the banks of the Delatite River, which although mostly downhill features a few calf burning ascents to keep competitors honest. The trail is a fast, smooth fire trail with numerous gentle water bars and flowing corners, finishing with twelve spectacular river crossings. This Stage is also open to entrants in the Gravity Cup at Mt Buller - and for those the entry fee is zero!
Day two of the AMC will see riders contest a traditional Cross Country Olympic (XCO) format race around the renowned Corn Hill Trail Network. The five kilometer course features a fast, flowing mix of single track and fire trail that will be accessible to all comers.
The final day offers a truly iconic wilderness mountain bike experience including the remarkable Stonefly Trail. The 25 kilometer course is the 'icing on the cake' for this massive weekend of All Mountain racing, offering competitors the chance to ride the remainder of Mt Buller's world-class mountain bike network. A shorter 12km loop will be on offer for some categories which will still showcase some amazing Mt Buller trails.
Gravity Cup riders are in for an action-packed chairlift-assisted weekend of racing down the International Trail, a fast-paced stalwart of the Australian gravity scene. International offers a winding, rocky descent through the snow gums down one of Australia's original world-cup level downhill trails.
As in round one all competitors will receive both a seeding and a racing run, making for a truly great value weekend of descending. Riders not content with a weekend on International can also enter the Delatite River Super D, as mentioned above. Delatite offers one of the longest gravity fed descents in Australia, and will be a perfect way to open your gravity weekend.
