Information:

The Glenorchy Mountain Bike Park has developed a reputation as one of the finest mountain bike racing venues in Australia, with many media outlets proclaiming the venue as the best on the national racing circuit. All courses finish in one central area, with ample space for timing infrastructure and spectators. If successful in this bid The Glenorchy Mountain Bike Park Committee is committed to once again providing a fresh and exciting set of race courses.

The Glenorchy Mountain Bike Park contains world- class tracks for Cross Country, Downhill, Mountain Cross, Dirt Jumps, dual slalom and 'North Shorestyle riding' all in one central location. The park has had design and construction input from leading trail designers World Trail and Dirt Art. The Park has been hailed as one of the best and most complete mountain bike facilities in Australia, and continues to develop new and exciting infrastructure.

Location:

The Glenorchy Mountain Bike Park is situated in Wellington Park on the foothills of Mt. Wellington. It is approximately 15 minutes drive from the city centre and there is a dedicated, flat cycleway connecting Hobart with Glenorchy. The Hobart International Airport is 30 minutes drive from the venue and the TTline operates a car transport ferry into Devonport, which is a 3 hour drive from the venue.

Accomodation:

The Glenorchy Mountain bike park is no more than 15 minutes travelling time (35 minutes max by bike) from the Hobart CBD giving us easy access to literally dozens of accommodation options from $30 backpackers to luxury hotels. Accommodation closest to the event includes a number of lower priced hotel/motel establishments in the Glenorchy/Derwent Park area within 5 minutes travelling time by car (15 minutes by bicycle) to the Mountain Bike Park.

CROSS COUNTRY- XCO

The cross-country course is a diverse mix of trail types, climbing, descending and technical trail features designed to test even the most seasoned riders. Whilst a challenge for all, the course has many fast flowing singletrack sections that will provide enjoyment for competitors of all skill levels. The course starts with a long, wide fire-trail with a moderate climb, providing an excellent start with many opportunities for passing. Following this climb the course slowly narrows into a brief singletrack climb followed by a rewarding descent back into the race village. Following this half-lap riders venture out onto the full course, which is approximately 50% climbing and 50% descending. A new and popular section of the trail last year was the final approach to the finish. providing a technical challenge to riders and an excellent viewing opportunity for spectators.

DOWNHILL

The Dirt Art designed and constructed downhill course at Glenorchy Mountain Bike Park has undergone a number of transformations, ensuring that every year riders are provided with an exciting and challenging racing experience. Widely recognised as one of the finest courses on the Australian racing circuit, this course will provide a challenge to even the most seasoned riders. The course provides a diverse range of technical rock sections, fast open turns, berms, drops and large yet safe jumps. The lower section of the course is a fast and flowing mix of large jumps and turns, offering a fantastic and easily accessible spectator experience. Last year works were undertaken to make the course more accessible to less experienced riders. These works opened up many new lines and vastly improved the riding experience for newer and lesser-skilled riders. The course itself descends over an elevation fall of approximately 350m offering plenty of steep and fast sections, connected by slower and more technically challenging features. Race times are generally in the low three-minute range for the top elite riders.

4-CROSS

The World-Trail designed mountain-cross track is a big and bold course with many large jumps and bermed corners. The course is 6 metres wide and takes around 35 seconds to complete for top riders. A professionally designed start gate is installed at the park with an industry standard start hill. The course is designed to provide an optimum viewing experience for spectators. This year the course will include a flat camber turn and inclusion of a rock garden feature.
